Abstract<\/span><\/p>

Traditional doctors have been utilizing the advantages of the potency of natural plants in the treatment and prevention of several ailments for decades without them or their patience knowing the active ingredients responsible for the potency. Hence the need to evaluate and understand the medicinal bio \u2013 active substances present in plants. This work analyses the phytochemical substances and the anti \u2013 oxidant activities of the roots and leaves of <\/span>citrus aurantifolia.<\/span> The plant parts were collected, dried, pulverized and extracted in absolute ethanol. The extracts collected were analyzed for bio \u2013 active substances and antioxidant activities. The results show the presence of alkaloids, carbohydrates, glycosides, saponins, phenols, tannins, flavonoids, protein and amino acid in both the roots and leaves of <\/span>citrus aurantifolia<\/span>. The KMnO<\/span>4<\/span><\/span> scavenging effects of the plant parts show them to displayed effective potentials as anti \u2013 oxidants as the % KMnO<\/span>4 <\/span><\/span>radical scavenging competes favorably; (root \u2013 85.60% and leaves \u2013 89.88%) with the reference ascorbic acid (83.82%). This indicate that the plant parts can scavenge free radical from the body. These finding denotes that the root and leave of <\/span>citrus aurantifolia<\/span> can be a good source of therapeutic for health management.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Elucidation of the bioactive substances and biological activities of plants around us is of great importance. The leaves and roots of <\/span>Citrus aurantifolia <\/span>have been a source of therapeutic in health management for decades in our locality with the traditional doctors and their patients having little or no knowledge of the active ingredients necessitating the medicinal potency. This work has justified that the plant parts are endowed with bioactive substances with strong antioxidant potentials. The scavenging abilities and the presence of medical components in indicate the potency of the leaves and root of C<\/span>itrus aurantifolia<\/span> in the treatment and prevention of several ailments in our locality for health management. This work has added to the medicinal value of the plant parts for the wellbeing of humanity in and around our community.<\/span><\/p>

Omale, Moses Ojochogwu<\/span> was born on 27\/02\/1981. I attended LGEA primary school Enjema, Ankpa Local Government, Kogi State. I went to Federal Government College, Ugwolawo and on completion in 1995 I proceeded to Kogi State of College of Education where I obtained Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in Biology<\/span>\/<\/span>Chemistry in 1999. Abuh Leonard Omachoko<\/span> was born on the 27<\/span>th <\/span><\/span>Sept. 1972. He attended several primary school educations but completed at LGEA primary school in Oguma, Bassa, Kogi State. He went to St Charles College, Ankpa and on completion he proceeded to Kogi State of College of Education where he obtained Nigeria Certificate in Education in Biology \/ Chemistry in 1994. In 1995 he proceeded to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi where he obtained a Bachelor of technology degree (B. Tech) in Industrial Chemistry in 1999. He furthered his education in Kogi State University, Anyigba where he graduated in 2017 with a Master\u2019s degree (M. Sc) in Industrial Chemistry. Currently he is studying Industrial Chemistry at PhD in the Federal University of Lafia, Nassarawa, Nigeria.
