Abstract<\/span><\/p>\n

Studies have indicated that management of sports facilities and equipment are imperative for young athletes\u2019 sports participation. Sports facilities are those immobile infrastructures for sports training, competitions and events. While, sports equipment are items that are movable and are utilized for a period of time. Sports facilities and equipment management are referred to the process of planning, purchasing, administering, coordinating and evaluating the day-to-day procedure of facilities and equipment utilization. This paper explored the role of sports facilities and equipment management on young athletes\u2019 sports participation in Nigeria. The concepts of sports facilities and equipment management were critical reviewed. Related issues were also discussed, such as; sports facilities and equipment maintenance cost, standard sport facilities, modernization in sports facilities and equipment management and safety in sports facilities and equipment usage. It concluded among others that sports facilities and equipment management create a safe and healthy environment for sports participation among young athletes, which in turn set the tone for promising great future athletic performance. It was recommended among others that personnel that will be responsible for the management of sports facilities and equipment should be experience. <\/span><\/p>\n

Impact Statement<\/span><\/p>

The findings from this study will be of great benefit to all sports stakeholders in Nigeria, including, sports administrators in primary and secondary schools, tertiary institutions, and local and state government councils and it will immensely benefit the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports. The entire sport stakeholders will be educated through this study on the importance of managing sports facilities and equipment (SFE) for sports participation in Nigeria. Also, they will understand the huge role SFE play in motivating the youths to participate in sports, hence, creating opportunities for them to be healthy, socialize, and empowered through various sports professional careers. Kerimu Ikazuwagbe JOEL graduated from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria where he begged B.Sc. (Ed.) in Human Kinetics and M.Sc. in Sociology of Sports from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and is currently pursuing a Ph.D \u00a0in Sociology of Sports in the same University. Joel is an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Human Kinetics Education, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin.
