Gender Based Analysis Of Students Performance In Nigeria Certificate In Education (Nce) In Integrated Science

Abstract

The study determined gender differences in the performance of Integrated Science Students in Kogi State College of Education Ankpa. From 2012-2015 academic sessions.  The study is a correlational design and was guided by three research questions and one hypothesis. A total of 225 (141 females and 84 males) final year students who had completed the programme of study in Integrated science made up the population of the study. This population formed the purposive sample of the study. The instrument for data collection was the final academic board approved results of the college, mean scores and percentages were used to answer the research questions and Ƶ-test was used to test the hypothesis. The findings of the study among others are; there is a significant difference in the grade mean scores of the female and male students which are 48.7 and 47.7 respectively which implies that gender gap in performance in integrated science is disappearing. This is source of hope for the country and the world in general where gender disparity in performance is prominent.

Impact statement

The outcome of the research work indeed have changed the perception of an  individual, family, NGO ,female children, male children and the government. The work is an eye’s opener for all. Females will no longer see themselves as inferior in sharing ideas. Government will begin to involve females where critical problem need to be solved e.g. economic and security.Government will now see the need to increase the employment quota system in favour of  female. Female children will now get enroll in some courses that involve critical thinking.Female can now be fixed in different parastatals where problems are to be solved.Male children will no longer see female children as inferior. Families having only female children will be encouraged seen that the female children can compete favourably with their male counterparts. End of the road to Gender bias.

About The Author

The author’s  name is Matthew  David Femi ,he was born on 11th March 1975 to the family of Alleh in Ekinre  Adde in kogi state Nigeria.He attended Baptist primary and obtained the leaving school certificate in 1989 and obtained the SSCE certificate in 1995. He graduated from university of Ilorin with   B.Sc (ED) in physics in 2002. Obtained M.Sc physics in material science and solar energy physics in university of Nigeria Nsukka in 2014. He  has published 23 journal articles both in education and core sciences.He is currently pursuing his Ph.D  in material science and on bench work in India.He is currently a senior lecturer at kogi state college of  Education Ankpa.
