Utilization of social media to Enhance Learnability among Secondary School Students (CBSE AND ICSE)

ABSTRACT

We are currently in a technological era where inventions and discoveries are prevalent due to the latest technological advancements worldwide. One of the most significant technological developments is social media, which greatly impacts youth, especially teenagers. We can observe that the youth are increasingly connected to social media, particularly through online platforms that have emerged and are still emerging. These platforms allow the youth to connect with a world of ideas, thoughts, facts, and possibilities.

The concept of learnability involves the desire and the ability to develop and adapt one’s skills to remain mainstream. It is a multifaceted process that requires a shift from occasional learning to a lifestyle of continuous learning. This involves actively seeking out new skills to acquire and accumulate over time, which can enhance creativity and build upon existing knowledge.

Social media is a term used to describe the various virtual platforms and networks where students can interact, share, and exchange information and ideas. In this particular study, social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Telegram, Instagram, and WhatsApp are included in the definition of social media.

Impact Statement

As India emerged for technology in teaching & learning through ICT based, inevitably shifted from offline to online after COVID-19 pandemic. By the usage of social media, it has positive & negative shades by the users. Comparing to the secondary level teens they have unbrushed tendency for its proper use. In India one survey reveals 47.14% of the students reported that social media is a source of great distraction to killing the time, when it used other than the academic purposes.  Though it is helpful, to be used under seniors’ supervision like parents & teachers only for academic purposes. Meanwhile it will be best suit for the learner to reach the unreached area in intentionally with its meaningful practices. Institutions can provide its best access by facilitating good internet for the learner’s assignment & projects to disseminate the knowledge in required field.

SHILPA N is MSc M.Ed. KSET(Education), and pursuing Ph.D. in Education as Research Scholar from Department of Education, Kuvempu University Shankargatta, Karnataka. She has presented a paper through virtually at the International Seminar, Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World on 12th August 2023 titled ‘UTILIZATION OF SOCIAL MEDIA TO ENHANCE LERNABILITY AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS (CBSE & ICSE).’ Organized by International Council for Education Research & Training (ICERT). A paper presented through virtually at the International Conference, Emerging Trends and Approaches in Education on 20th & 21st October 2023 titled ‘EDUCATION THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS– A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF INDIAN AND FOREIGN SCHOOLS.’ Organized by Kumudwathi College of Education, Shikaripura Karnataka. She participated in one a day workshop on “Enhancement of the NEP skills in teaching profession at school level” on 15th May 2023.
